Citadel FAQ
GENERAL FAQ
What types of media are accepted?
Anything that has an officially published media that is available (whether officially or unofficially) in English. If it hasn't been translated yet, sorry you'll have to wait. Also, at this time we will happily accept characters from various manga, comics, movies, etc. But we will not be accepting traditional mythology as a canon source.
How many characters can I play?
You may apply for 3 characters without mod permission and, should you be interested in adding to that, we may approve up to 5 but we will investigate your activity before granting permission.
How old does my character have to be in canon?
There is no age restriction on characters. However. There are certain areas of the city where younger characters are not permitted. The Weaver of Innocence has placed barriers throughout the city barring those pure of heart from the darker elements present. The entire district of Musei, for example, is completely off limits for any character under the age of sixteen.
Please be aware that any, and we do mean ANY logs or threads that break this rule will result in immediate removal from the game. While characters may have histories that include it, we absolutely will not allow the exploitation of minor characters in any type of mature or sexual context in game.
What is the in-game timeline?
As we prefer to allow plenty of time for in-depth character exploration and a focus on quality writing the ratio for the game will be 1 game day to 3 RL days.
What are your Activity Check (AC) requirements?
There will be an activity check once a month. Be sure to post on the official hiatus post if something comes up and you need to take time off. Otherwise, you are expected to meet the AC requirements each month. There are three ways to make AC.
1) ONE post (to either the log comm or the network comm) and at least TEN comments (threads with other people as part of logs or in network posts not made by you)
2) TWO posts (log or network)
3) Twenty comments made by your character anywhere (log, network) Note: While we do enjoy icon spamming as much as anyone else, an icon spam chain shall only count as one comment!
What sort of plots should we expect? What sort of plots need moderator approval?
We highly encourage player-run plots. The nature of the city itself allows portions of it to be altered on a whim and it can sometimes take some time for the Imperial Weavers to set things right, or as right as they ever get. While there is an over-arcing plot it will take some time to unfold and, in the mean time, the more trouble you cause the more that plot may be furthered along.
Can I use NPCs?
While we, of course, prefer for you to interact with your fellow PCs we understand that some NPC use is necessary from time to time.
Tell me more about these dreams. How do they work?
So you keep saying the Weavers. Just who are these guys?
Can you explain this mirror transport system a little more?
So what happens if they don’t get a job?
Did you say jewels for money? How does that work?
And the housing?
By the way… where’s our stuff?
CHARACTER FAQ
What about canon updates?
Canon updates are a tricky thing within the Citadel. It can never be certain if leaving the city is a real occurrence or simply a dream. We will allow canon updates in that the character will seem to vanish for a few days and return with knowledge of further events that can be corroborated with other castmates... but they will never be able to be certain that the experience was real.
Can I reset my character?
If you feel this is necessary you may speak with a mod about it but we would greatly prefer you to play through your character working things out themselves. This will be allowed only in extenuating circumstances so please keep that in mind.
What if my character has magic or power abilities? Can they keep it?
Sure! Though even in dreams, powers can find new limitations. Characters that have the ability to teleport/can use dimensional travel will find that these abilities only work within the city itself. They cannot sneak into the Tower of the Princess, nor can they reach the gates. World-ending powers are nullified. Other than that, they have full use of canon abilities.
My character is plain old human. Is it possible for them to gain powers or abilities?
My non-human character has the ability to turn others into non-humans. Do they get to keep this ability?
What if my character dies in game?
Certainly. All mortal beings can, after all, and in a world of dreams even the immortal are not entirely safe. Any characters that die in game must contact the mods for a determination on how long it will take the character to be revived and what penalty that revival will cost them. At first the penalties will be relatively minor but if your character makes a habit of it the penalties can get quite steep. Once a character is resurrected they will appear at a Gate that remains in ruins, an abandoned tower on that particular island atop a rather terrifying, tight spiral staircase in as much disrepair as the Gate itself. There is no mirrorway at the Gate of Resurrection, only a dizzying and dangerous descent into Kosmar.
