Arrival

Wherever you were, between one moment and the next, everything changes. Maybe you were daydreaming, paying little attention to your surroundings. Maybe you fell asleep on the bus, at your desk, just a quick little catnap. More likely, though, you were sound asleep... and dreaming.

It doesn’t matter where you were, though, because now you are in the Citadel. One moment asleep, the next falling through an ornate stone archway onto a bed of grass and clover.

When you awaken all you can see is white, pale grey, dusky rose, cottony clouds swelling around that small scrap of land you sleep upon. There is the arch behind you, the stone gate you probably don’t remember coming through. And far to one side, almost obscured by the clouds, there is another arch, this one a doorway, smaller and freestanding, made of what appears to be mirror.

Beside it, utterly silent, utterly still, stand two guards. Plate metal armor shields them, tall halberds bearing white and gold streamers is held firmly in their hands. Whatever you say, whatever you ask, they have no answer for you. They will merely motion to the door, to that smooth glimmering mirror. Though there is no handle a single touch will show you the magic of the place. For within the Citadel mirrors are gateways and by stepping through you will find yourself in the center of Glinn, the residential district, standing in an expansive shallow pool of crystalline water and greeted readily by the staff at the welcome center. The city bustles overhead and all around, and beyond it nothing but clouds, floating islands, and the great tower, rising above the city and reflecting back the cool halflight like diamond.

Welcome to the city of L’Arc en Reves, where all your dreams come true.
